March 1st Meeting

MEMBERS PRESENT: 15

GUESTS: Don Richardson, Christine Kellum, Aquatics Director, Stokes YMCA, Chris Kaufman.

Meeting called to order at 12:05 pm. Debbie welcomed Don Richardson on his second visit. She introduced Christine Kellum who gave a very informative talk on the various programs available at the Stokes YMCA and specifically spoke about the Partnership with Youth campaign. The club presented her with a check for $250 as a contribution.

Kathy encouraged everyone to make an effort to sell raffle tickets for the 50/50 drawing.

Candace reported the club has received a $50 donation from Sam’s club for the Stokes Arts Council dinner on March 9.

Debbie reported that Principal Clark is enthusiastic about the Interact club, but meetings will have to be held somewhere other than the school. Senior Center is a possibility.

There being no further business, Candace made motion to adjourn, seconded by Rae Ann, meeting adjourned at 12:40 pm.

February 22nd Meeting

MEMBERS PRESENT: 16

GUESTS: David McCoy, District Governor Elect, Chuck Houska, Assistant District Governor, Don Messer, Honorary member, Don Richardson, Bethany Wray.

Debbie called meeting to order at 12:05 pm.

Park project, will have answer after Town meeting March 6.

Principal Clark. South Eastern Middle school confirmed the Interact program.

Golf Tournament, Debbie is waiting for confirmation from Southern Community that they will sponsor Hole in One again this year. Candace distributed the list of businesses members had submitted as possible sponsors. Committee for golf tournament consists of Marian, Wendell, Candace, John, Rae Ann and David.

The Stokes Art council dinner theater at Senior Center March 9 was discussed. Menu now will be lasagna, both meat and vegetable, salad, rolls, tea and coffee, desert, cheesecake. It is hoped that Sam’s will give gift certificate to purchase food items. Betty Jo will provide table arrangements, there will be a table displaying educational items. Members to bring candlestick holders and taper candles to next meeting.

Candace suggested the club doing a pancake breakfast for Stokes Volunteer Center as a fund raiser.

This being Walnut Cove Rotary club’s 60th anniversary, David McCoy gave brief talk followed by anniversary cake made and decorated by Candace.

There being no further business, motion was made by Candace to adjourn, seconded by Marian, meeting adjourned at 1 pm.

February 15th Meeting

MEMBERS PRESENT: 14

GUESTS: Susan Maxey, Stokes Volunteer Service, Bill Cobb

Debbie called meeting to order at 12.05 pm. She informed members that the International project is in progress. The criteria for President Citation and Gold Club for District 7690 is for all clubs that have Paul Harris Fellows have given $1,000.
1) Club members would need to donate $100 this year to Rotary International, the $60 dues is for that purpose, if each member would donate a one time payment of $40, we can achieve this goal.
2) Each year we would be a sustaining club, members send $100 to Rotary International to keep balance going.
3) We would be willing to give extra points to other clubs to help them become Paul Harris Fellows.

Danny made a motion to accept the three criteria and give one time payment of $100, Kathy seconded, passed unanimously.

David McCoy, the District Governor Elect will attend the club’s 60th Anniversary celebration on Thursday, February 22, 2007.

Treasurer’s report: $3310.00

Susan Maxey, Director of Stokes Volunteer Center gave a very informative presentation on the role the volunteers play in the community and resources available.

There being no further business, Kathy made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Candace, meeting adjourned at 1 pm.

February 8th Meeting

MEMBERS PRESENT: 15

GUESTS: Van Sherrill, Kernersville Rotary Club

Debbie called meeting to order at 12:05 pm and introduced Van Sherrill who will be our Assistant District Governor for 2008.

Van pointed out that this month was the club’s 60th anniversary. It was decided to hold celebration on Thursday, February 22 which is the actual date. Mitzi Ellis, Chuck Houska and Van Sherrill will be invited to attend.
There has been no response from any students that would be interested in entering the drug speech contest.

Debbie reported that she met with the principal of Walnut Cove Middle School regarding the Interact club. She apparently has been involved with Interact at a previous school and is very interested. A sign-up meeting will be arranged, pizza will be served.

The club has finally found an international project. Julie attended a meeting at the Triad Rotary Club and met with Vern Martell who is working on the matching grant. The project is the Amani Children’s Foundation. Chad and Jane Stephens who have lived in Kenya and started this project, gave a very inspiring talk and showed a video. Walnut Cove has pledged $500, which with the matching grant will amount to $1,000. It is a non-structural matching grant, which means it can only be used for diapers, medical supplies etc.

Members need to be selling tickets for the 50/50 raffle, also the Stokes County Arts Council dinner theater on March 9. Menu: Baked chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, salad, dessert, ice tea, coffee. Stores to be contacted for possible gift vouchers to purchase food.
Members to bring five names of people to contact for sponsors for the golf tournament.

Debbie reported the Fowler park project is still ongoing. Homer Dearman, interim Town Manager is checking on liability issues etc.
Susan Maxey, Director of Stokes Volunteers will be the program for next meeting.

There being no further business, Karen made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Judy. Meeting adjourned at 12:45 pm
